Language Test Requirements for Skilled Worker Immigration Programs

- IELTS General Training
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) — (available from late 2023)
For French:

CELPIP
The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) covers four modules — listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The test takes approximately three hours to complete and costs around $300. Results are available within 4–5 days.
IETLS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) also has four modules — listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The test takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete and costs around $300. Results are available within 3–5 days for computer-based tests and 13 days for paper-based tests.
TEF
The Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) assesses French comprehension and expression skills in non-native speakers. It is used for Quebec Immigration and is the only French language test accepted for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). The TEF consists of three written sections and two oral sections, with varying time limits. The cost of the TEF depends on the location of the test.
TCF
The Test de Connaissance du français (TCF) is another test used to assess French comprehension and expression skills in non-native speakers. It is also used for Quebec Immigration. The TCF consists of three compulsory sections and two optional sections. The compulsory examinations last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, while the optional examinations last approximately two hours. The cost of the TCF depends on the location of the test.
